``2D_conn_comp'' - two-dim. connected components analysis

VFX name:
iConnComp2d
IMPROMPTU Equivalent:
2D_conn_comp
purpose:
This function is identical to ``three-d'' except that it works on 2-d x-y (transverse) planes.
input:
An 8-bit binary-valued volume.
output:
An 8-bit volume, possibly with grayscale values.
parameters:
Default parameters menu is
minCompSize = 10
maxNumComp = 1
connectivity = 4
saveLabels = no
The connectivity can be varied between 4-connectivity and 8-connectivity [24].
comments:
1.
This function only works on 2-D transverse planes!
2.
To do a 2-D sagittal (x-z) connect-components analysis, use the function ``three-d'' and set the subregion parameters (REGION submenu of ROI) ``x width = 1'' and ``x low = x1'', where x1 selects the sagittal slice. To do other sagittal slices, you must vary the parameter ``x low = '' and rerun ``three-d''. (Yes, this is cumbersome.) To do a 2-D coronal (y-z) connect-components analysis, use the function ``three-d'' and set the subregion parameters (REGION submenu of ROI) ``y width = 1'' and ``y low = x1'', where y1 selects the coronal slice. To do other coronal slices, you must vary the parameter ``y low = '' and rerun ``three-d''.
3.
Only a maximum of 254 components can be saved safely on each slice!
